The Environment Europe Foundation is offering a prestigious PhD Fellowship to for 3 years, with an annual stipend of €15,000 in The Hague. This is a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research addressing interdisciplinary challenges in ecological economics, geography, and environmental sciences, combining diverse methodologies including input-output economics, statistical analysis, and GIS. You will be throughly committed to working on impactful and most pressing sustainability issues our world is facing today. The research will have significant real-world impact and will result in multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals. The absolutely essential criteria for this PhD Fellowship include fluency in written and spoken English, a Master's degree in a relevant subject, experience and expertise in GIS analysis using ArcGIS and similar software, experience and expertise in statistical analysis or econometrics, understanding of the subject of ecosystem services as well as the relevant debates and indicators. The highly desirable skills for this position include: knowledge of and application of environmentally-extended input-output analysis, knowledge of operation research methods, experience desigining and managing databases e.g. MySQL, computer programming and AI skills. Knowledge of the Sub-Saharan Africa context is also highly desirable. Knowledge of other European language, e.g. French or German, highly advantageous.
Key Requirements:
Education: MSc in Economics, Geography, Environmental Science, or Applied Mathematics
Essential Skills:
GIS analysis;
statistical analysis;
understanding of ecosystem services, major classifications and relevant indicators;
excellent written and spoken English.

Database design and management

In the course of your PhD Fellowship you will be working on an exciting interdisciplinary research project applying cutting edge methodologies and creating new analytical tools and will be co-supervised by one of the Environment Europe Foundation staff. You can be based literally anywhere in the European Union and will need to be registered for a PhD at one of the universities by the time the Fellowship commences.
