What is LUF?
LUF is an independent foundation that finances projects conducted by Leiden University researchers, and subsidises the appointment of LUF Professors. Students can apply for grants in support of activities that enhance their studies.
How can LUF contribute to your studies?
The Leiden University Fund (LUF) provides individual grants to students with original plans for studying, researching, interning, or attending conferences abroad. Through the LUF International Study Fund (LISF), grants of up to €1,500 are available, with exceptions for higher amounts in rare cases. Eligible students may apply once per Bachelor or Master program, and the grant will not exceed the actual costs of the project. Applicants must meet specific criteria and submit their applications via the LUF Subsidy Portal before their departure. Research project applicants are required to attend an in-person interview during the LISF committee meeting, with online interviews considered only for valid reasons.
LISF applications are reviewed during scheduled committee meetings, and applicants are notified of the outcome within 10 business days. Exceptional research projects may be nominated for the Janneke Fruin-Helb Grant, worth €500, without requiring additional actions by the candidate.
After completing their project, students must submit a final report, including a financial statement and a descriptive account (800–1,200 words) of their activities abroad, within two months of returning. The LUF reserves the right to use submitted reports, photographs, and videos for promotional purposes. For questions or further assistance, students can contact lisf@luf.leidenuniv.nl.
Shift would like to warmly thank LUF for financing the Study trip 2024 to Vienna which allowed us to lower the overall expenses for all 40 participants.
Here some pictures of the happy people that participated to the trip!
